Orbi WiFi Extender Setup
Orbi Outdoor satellite is also known as an Orbi WiFi extender. You can set it up in the Orbi mode or the Extender mode. This page will discuss the instructions to complete Orbi outdoor extender setup in both methods.
Orbi Mode: You can choose to set up the satellite in the Orbi mode if your host router is Orbi.
Extender Mode: The Orbi Outdoor satellite can be set up in the Extender mode if you have a non-Orbi WiFi router or a gateway.
Orbi Outdoor Satellite Installation in Orbi Mode
By default, an Orbi Outdoor satellite operates in Orbi mode. The following instructions will help you out if you want to set up your satellite in the Orbi mode:
- Keep your satellite in an area closer to your Orbi router.
- Power up your satellite and let the Power LED light up.
- Now, you must wait for the bottom light on your satellite to go white.
- Pulsing white: Your satellite is booting.
- Solid white: The satellite has booted up and you can now sync it with your Orbi router.
How to Sync Orbi WiFi Extender for Orbi Mode?
The next step after powering up the Orbi satellite is to sync it with the router which will further complete the installation process in the Orbi mode. Here’s how:
- Check the back panel of your Orbi satellite and press the Sync button.
- Press the Sync button present on the back of your Orbi router within 2 minutes.
- Wait and let the Orbi outdoor satellite sync with your Orbi router. Know that the bottom light on your WiFi extender will light white while establishing a connection. After that, it will turn blue, amber, or magenta.

Note: The syncing process between your Orbi router and Outdoor satellite will take about 6 minutes. The SSID and password of the satellite will be as same as the router.
How to Set Up Orbi Outdoor Satellite in Extender Mode?
You must change the operating mode of the Outdoor satellite to Extender if you have a router other than Orbi. The steps to complete Orbi WiFi extender setup with a non-Orbi router are mentioned below:
- Start by placing your satellite in an area near your non-Orbi router.
- Once done, connect the Orbi WiFi extender (Outdoor satellite) to a power source.
- You must not switch on the satellite. If it is turned on, press the Power button to turn it Off.
- Now, press the Sync button and hold it.
- While holding the Sync button on your satellite, you are supposed to press and release the Power button.
- This will power on your satellite.
- Do not release the Sync button.
- Let the bottom LED light on your Orbi WiFi extender pulse while and blue.
- Release the Sync button.
- The light on your Orbi will enter the following state as soon as you release the Sync button.
- Pulsing Blue: The satellite is powering up and its operating mode is being changed to the Extender mode. The light will pulse blue for a few minutes.
- Solid Blue: Your satellite has successfully entered the Sync mode and you can sync it with the router now.
How Can You Sync Orbi Outdoor Satellite for Extender Mode?
The steps to sync the Orbi satellite with a WiFi router are different for the Extender mode. The following points will help you know how to sync Orbi WiFi extender with a non-Orbi router:
- Open Network and Internet Settings on your WiFi-enabled computer or laptop.
- Find the network named, Netgear_EXT and connect to it.
- Load a web browser now and go to mywifiext.net.
- You will get redirected to the Netgear Installation assistant.
- The on-screen prompts will now guide you to sync the Orbi WiFi extender with the router.
- Check the LED light status to learn about the connection strength
